Lever locks: Areas of application and selection criteria

TVC

Fasteners are an essential component of various products. For example, bicycle helmets, ski boots and orthoses are held in place by fasteners. One type of fastener is the lever fastener, which works according to a well thought-out principle.

In this article, you will learn everything you need to know about the lever lock. We will inform you about how it works and its areas of application. We also give you tips on how to select the right model for your application.

How does a lever lock work?

The lever lock owes its name to the lever mechanism on which it is based. This type of closure has a lever that can be flipped or pivoted. This opens, closes or adjusts the shutter.

One of the distinguishing features of lever latches is their ease of use. The lever can be moved without any effort, which makes it possible to operate with one hand. In addition, a lever lock can also be operated effortlessly by children.

This type of fastener ensures secure fastening as it generates a high clamping force. Even if the object fitted with it moves a lot, the lever lock will not open by itself. Some models are also equipped with a snap function, which makes accidental opening even more difficult.

Good lever fasteners are made of high-quality materials such as robust plastic and metal, which guarantee a long service life. In addition, lever fasteners can be used flexibly and are therefore used in various areas.

Where can a lever lock be used?

Lever closures are used in numerous industries. For example, they are used to seal containers airtight and watertight. This function is particularly popular in industry. Lever fasteners are also widely used in mechanical engineering to create a secure connection between parts. This type of fastener is also popular in the clothing industry.

What should I look out for when choosing a lever lock?

If you need lever latches, the choice of the right model depends on various factors. These include, above all, the load that the lever fastener must be able to withstand. The greater the tensile force required, the more resilient the fastener should be.

Depending on the object to be fitted with the lever lock, it is advisable to select a model with an additional safety catch. This prevents the lock from opening unintentionally.

The expected resistance of the closure must also be taken into consideration. For example, if it is foreseeable that it will come into contact with chemicals or extreme temperatures, this will influence the choice. This applies, for example, to fasteners that are required for safety shoes for firefighters or chemical laboratory technicians.

The size of the fastener is also important when making a selection. It should be aligned with the dimensions of the product that is to be fitted with the fastener. It also plays a role whether the fastener is to be screwed, clamped or riveted.

Last but not least, you should pay attention to the design of the lever closure. The appearance of consumer goods is very important. The closure should be correspondingly attractive. In areas such as industry, on the other hand, the appearance can be neglected.

A lever lock from our range is TVC. It allows the realization of large clamping diameters by using a textile strap. Thanks to the integrated snap function, unintentional opening is virtually impossible.

Gudo: Your specialist for closures

Clamping fasteners

At Gudo, we specialize in the manufacture of different types of fasteners. In addition to lever fasteners, we also produce other tension and ratchet fasteners as well as twist fasteners.

The Clamping fasteners in our portfolio ensure a firm hold through tension. If the tension is changed, the fit can be varied, for example to loosen a ski boot. This is done intuitively thanks to the simple design. Tension fasteners are preferably used for ski boots, but are also suitable for other products such as corsets.

Ratchet fasteners are fitted with a lever. When it is pivoted, the position of the belt to which the fastener is connected changes. In this way, the fastener can be closed or opened. Car bike carriers, safety shoes and orthopaedic products are some of the most important objects that are fitted with ratchet fasteners.

In our range you will find ratchet fasteners that are suitable for belts with widths of 18 and 22 millimetres. The matching Timing belt are also available from us.

Rotary closures have a rotating wheel that can be used to increase or decrease the tension. This adjusts the fit of the product. Helmets for emergency services often have twist locks, as do bicycle helmets.

One of the biggest advantages of twist locks is their ease of use. They can be easily tightened or opened with one hand. Many fasteners of this type are also equipped with a quick-release function. By pressing the corresponding button in the middle of the dial, the fastener opens immediately. This also makes it interesting for children's shoes.

Also Clips can be found in our range. The simply designed fasteners can be used to clamp toothed belts, textile straps and cables and hold them in place. This is relevant for ski boots and orthoses, for example. We have clips that are suitable for strap widths of 15, 18 and 22 millimetres.

Specific closures according to customer requirements

RVH

Do you need a closure for a special application that you can't find from any supplier? Then you are welcome to commission us with the design and manufacture. Our team is very familiar with the development of closures and also has the necessary experience.

At the outset, we provide you with comprehensive advice and, above all, find out what ideas you have about the planned closure. We check the feasibility of this information, focusing primarily on technical and economic aspects. Production should be as efficient as possible and produce the best result.

Among other things, we rely on the Prototyping. With this approach, we manufacture individual pieces according to preliminary designs that are fully functional. They can therefore be comprehensively tested and checked for errors. The findings from the tests are incorporated into the new design, after which another prototype is created.

At the end of the prototyping process, a product is created that has the desired properties. Series production can then begin on the basis of this design. At your request, this can take place in our factory in Lupfig. We have extensive and modern machinery at our disposal, thanks to which we can offer various production methods. These include

We can also carry out additional production steps such as ultrasonic welding and riveting in our factory. You can rest assured that your products will be of the desired high quality. This applies to both large orders and smaller quantities.

We are also at your disposal when it comes to the final assembly. If your product consists of several individual components, assembly is essential. Our systems are designed to reliably meet all requirements.
