Different closure systems for different industries
At Gudo, we see ourselves as specialists for closure systems of all kinds. We offer our customers a wide range of different fastening solutions for a wide variety of applications. Our twist, ratchet and tension fasteners are used by various manufacturers of sporting goods. They reliably close helmets and shoes, for example.
But manufacturers from completely different industries also rely on Gudo's high-quality and robust closure systems. In the following article, we will introduce you to our solutions and show you the industries in which they are used.
Which closure systems does Gudo offer?
We produce a wide range of closure systems and mechanisms that are used in various industries. We generally offer closures in the following variants:
Twist fasteners are our most complex product. A wire or plastic thread is wound onto a spindle concealed in a rotary knob. This allows, for example, specialized sports shoes to be securely laced with little effort. Twist fasteners can also be used for the fine adjustment of bicycle helmets or for fastening special gloves.
Ratchet locks are one of our most versatile locking mechanisms. The principle is to guide a toothed belt through a ratchet housing with a pawl. The simplicity of the mechanism makes the ratchet fasteners cost-effective and extremely versatile. Whether for sports equipment or in orthopaedic products: The fasteners can be easily installed anywhere.
Our tension fasteners were originally developed for fastening ski boots. They are therefore extremely resilient and can also be used in adverse weather conditions. This makes the fasteners very popular, especially in the orthopaedic sector. Removable prostheses and orthoses in particular are very often fastened with our tension fasteners.
Due to their small size, our clip fasteners are ideal for various applications. Our clips are perfect for many manufacturers of shoes and helmets. They can be used flexibly and can therefore be integrated into a wide variety of products even in the standard versions.
Which industries rely on Gudo locking systems?
Our closure solutions are used by well-known companies from various industries. Companies from the following sectors in particular benefit from the wide range of options offered by our closures:
- Sporting goods
- Shoes

Closure solutions for sporting goods manufacturers
Our fasteners have been very popular for many years, especially in the field of sporting goods. Sportswear, shoes and helmets typically have to meet two important requirements in particular.
The first is safety. Whether skiing, cycling or outdoor running: the equipment must not come loose by itself, even in extreme situations. Secondly, sports equipment should be as light as possible. If you are aiming for new speed records or want to climb new peaks on the mountain, you don't want to be slowed down by heavy equipment.
Gudo's closure systems fulfill both requirements perfectly. Our plastic closures, which are mainly manufactured using injection molding, are robust and weigh just a few grams. Our twist and tension fasteners are mainly used in sports.
The twist fasteners are used, for example, to firmly close special shoes. Ski boots, trail running shoes or climbing shoes, for example, are fitted with twist fasteners. They are the first choice wherever it is important that shoe laces do not come undone at the wrong moment. The simple one-handed operation of the system is also an advantage.
However, twist locks are also used, for example, to tighten bicycle, riding and other helmets. In addition, ratchet fasteners with toothed straps are often used. This is often used to tighten and close the chin strap of the helmet in particular.
Our tension fasteners are also used as components in sporting goods. As already mentioned, we originally developed them as a fastening solution for ski boots. Our new fastener, which is currently under development Ski boot buckle testifies to our many years of experience as a supplier to the industry.
Orthopaedic and medical products
Numerous fasteners that we first developed for sporting goods manufacturers are also popular with producers of orthopaedic products. Many of the advantages that make our closures attractive for sports are also important for medical products.
Prostheses and orthoses that can be put on and taken off independently by patients are often fitted with our tension fasteners. The precise, stepless adjustment of the fastener makes it possible to adapt such aids very precisely to the patient's requirements. The fasteners are also easy to use and can be operated with one hand. This is often particularly important for prosthesis wearers.
Wheelchair users also benefit from our fastening systems in many cases. Our ratchet fasteners in particular are often used to attach safety straps to the wheelchair. Brackets and other accessories are also attached with the fasteners. The fasteners can also be used to attach additional accessories to walking aids.
Just like manufacturers in the sports industry, producers of orthopaedic shoes often use twist fasteners. The particularly fine adjustment options of the fasteners enable the wearers of such special shoes to adapt them even better to their own requirements. In addition, people with disabilities in particular benefit from the ability to close and open the shoes with one hand.
Work clothes
Just as with sports, ease of use and a high level of safety are also important for workwear. Whether protective vests, safety shoes or helmets: reliable fasteners are useful wherever clothing and accessories are exposed to high loads.
Similar to sports helmets, safety helmets can also be adjusted and adapted to the shape of the wearer's head using twist locks. The simple operation of the mechanism makes it possible to attach the dial to the back of the helmet. It can be operated with one hand while the helmet is already being worn.
Just as with sports shoes, the use of twist fasteners can also be useful for safety shoes. The mechanism enables the shoes to be fastened particularly tightly and securely. Alternatively, instep or ratchet fasteners can also be used.
Shoe manufacturer
Not only special shoes, but also conventional casual shoes can be equipped with special closure systems. Especially with sports shoe-inspired Sneakers twist and tension fasteners are an attractive design option as an alternative to conventional shoelaces. In addition, the fastening systems often make everyday life easier for people with motor or other physical disabilities.
Industry
Resistant closure systems can also be put to good use in many other areas. One example of this is industry.
For example, twist locks are used to adjust belt systems. In assembly processes, snap and clip fasteners can be used to temporarily fix parts in place. This enables faster and simpler assembly. Containers and packaging are also often secured with tension and ratchet fasteners.
Wide range of applications
The examples listed show that our closure solutions are extremely versatile. There may also be a suitable application for your products.
